For those of you who don't know, I played badminton in high
school. Now when I mean that I played badminton I’m not talking about going
down to the park once a week and setting up my own net. I mean I did that too,
but no. What I mean when I say I played badminton, is that my friends and I
played serious competitive badminton on our high school team. And yes,
badminton is a sport at our high school.
All of the seniors on our team at our last match of the season |
Our sophomore year in high school my two friends and I thought it
would be a lot of fun to join the badminton team. Fun it was, but man it wasn’t
the huge joke that everyone thought it out to be. Just like any other varsity
sport there had to be practice and time put into the sport. We learned quickly
that this high school badminton team was hard core.
I would like to say that we were the best on the team but that
would be a huge lie. I mean my other two friends Dana and Melody were great but
little old Laura not so much.
Like everyone else, the three of us went our own separate way in
college but it seems that every time we are all together we are trying to find
time for all three of us to get together again and play some good old
badminton. Unfortunately, it never works out and we all mope around saying how
much we miss playing. But don’t worry, I was finally able to get my fix of some
badminton yesterday.
As soon as I heard that there was an event like this I knew I had
to do it. Badminton for the Brains was put on the psych and badminton club at
school and all the money raised went towards autism.
With that being said I grabbed my new partner Shellie (sorry
Melody and Dana), and hit the court on Sunday. Check out how awesome we did.
Yup that’s pure gold we are holding, glistening in the light. We’ll also now be
representing team USA in the Olympics this summer.
Just kidding. I mean if they gave out trophies at this thing for
showing up we would’ve won but no. Shel and I were probably one of the worst
teams there. With double elimination, we lost in the second round. Pathetic, we
know. Even though we sucked real bad, it was totally worth spending my Sunday
afternoon reliving the good old glory days of high school on the court.
Laughing and playing around on the court was a lot of fun and we will definitely
be doing it again. Watch out for Shel and I next year as we will be training to
take home the gold! We're gonna be needing a lot of practice.
If you need a good laugh, watch us attempt to hit the bird. We fail miserably again and again.
Sorry for the crappy quality.
